It should make her nervous, she thinks, having this much attention concentrated on her when she's not actively trying to get something out of him. And it does, a little. This is exactly the sort of connection she's tried to avoid for most of her life and she's made nervous by the extent to which Caden clearly cares about her, but it's more than that. She's a little nervous when she realizes just how much she cares in return. Already.

And she knows she doesn't show it, not in the traditional sense, not the way most people do, but she does care. She's still here, after all. She hadn't left Siren Cove when her father had shown up out of the blue. She hadn't left when everyone around her had gone missing one by one even though she had wanted to.
