CHARACTER NAME: April Ross
CHARACTER AGE: 28
BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Born in Toronto, Ontario, April doesn't know her parents at all, having been taken from them when she was only a toddler. She has little knowledge of them at all beyond what her foster family suggested; drug abuse on her mother's side and strange abilities on her father's. That her father may have used his siren charms to manipulate her mother into marrying him, having his child, and falling into addiction is something she's not only considered, but is very sure of, and where others might be disgusted, she finds herself faintly fascinated by the possibility. She suspects she has siblings, a sister certainly, but possibly others, and there's a small part of her that wants to find them.
Foster care wasn't the worst thing to happen to her, though she knows it's because of her abilities that she was able to manipulate her foster parents into doing things her way. Though she had no one to teach her about her abilities, she was smart and did her own research, spending day after day at the local library after the first time her scales appeared. She wasn't as frightened as she thinks she should have been and she taught herself how to control them, how to use them. As a result, she was left alone for the most part, did well in school and as soon as she turned eighteen and was legally allowed to disappear, she did.
She's been moving from town to town since then, usually keeping to the coast. She's been all over the west coast of both Canada and the United States and has gone down into Mexico. Generally she can only stay in one place for a year at most, often causing too much trouble to stick around as a permanent resident. She's worked a variety of jobs from restaurants and retail to assistant to a high ranking CEO to a dancer in a club. It's not the job itself that matters to April, but the fun she can have while she's doing it and that usually involves screwing with whoever is within her reach.
Moving to Siren Cove wasn't planned, but she spotted the name of the town and couldn't very well pass by.
PERSONALITY: April can be whatever you want her to be and that's why she's dangerous. While she's not likely to physically hurt anyone, she delights in screwing people over or using them for her own amusement and has no problem stringing men or women along until she gets bored of them. She can be sweet and kind if it serves her purpose, she can be cruel and callous if that's what she thinks is going to help her or if it's what a person wants out of her. But her motivation, always, is her own amusement.
April's never been close to anyone. She's never had a real family, she's never made any real friends. Though she's not likely to admit it, there's a lot of sadness in her and a lot of residual anger over being abandoned by her parents. Her walls are strong and they're high, but it might not be completely impossible to break them down.
Because she has no real interest in power, the games she plays with people are almost always based on their direct relationship with her. It's a way for her to avoid getting close to anyone, a way to enforce her beliefs that there's no one in this world who'll look out for her, so she might as well look out for herself. She likes being the centre of attention and has no problem going out of her way to make sure people are looking at her.
The real April is in there somewhere. A woman who's a lot stronger than she lets herself believe, but someone who needs to be taught that manipulation isn't the only way to keep someone around for longer than a day.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: She's new in town, so she doesn't know of it yet, but once she finds out, she'll be fascinated and interested in all the ways she can play people off one another by using it. She'll have no side but her own.
LIFESTYLE: Upon arriving in town, she'll be looking for a job and given how many different positions she's held, she's open to a wide range of career options. She's conned a fair sum of money out of people during her travels and has more than enough to get by without having to work for awhile, but working is where she's always met people, so she'll be on the lookout for any options. Not wanting to reveal to anyone just how much money she has, she'll rent a small, tastefully furnished apartment. She dresses well, but not in any way that makes it obvious she's capable of paying for much more expensive clothing than she already does.
She's a social creature, too, and will regularly be seen at town gatherings, bars, anywhere there's a crowd. She's never been in a romantic relationship that's lasted longer than a few months and even those she's entered into with the strict purpose of getting something out of them. Were she honest with herself, her tastes run more toward men, but she's perfectly happy engaging in relationships with men or women. Especially if it gets her what she wants.
HUMAN, WITCH, OR SIREN: Siren. As with other sirens, April has a beautiful and captivating singing voice, a skill she uses mostly for her own amusement. She's not above humming softly as she moves through a store or a crowd, willing people to follow her. She's charismatic, but in a dangerous way, and most people who encounter her and find themselves wanting to be around her know it's probably not going to end well. But she makes it so they just don't care. When in siren form, the scales on her lower half are black and little else changes with the exception of her teeth, which sharpen into points and her eyes, which turn gold at the edges.
