"I was born in Toronto," she says. "Just outside of it, really, but I got out of there as soon as I turned eighteen." The rest of her history, that she'd been taken from her parents as a toddler, bounced from foster home to foster home, never settling down, never being officially adopted, she doesn't share those things. Not unless she finds they might benefit her.

"But I like the coast," she says. "And this place doesn't seem so bad."
